OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/01/2026, United States Park Police requested assistance from the Greenbelt Police Department after police reported observing a single vehicle leave the Baltimore-Washington Parkway and crash into a wooded area along Southway in Greenbelt. Police stated that U.S. Park Police officers had already placed 40-year-old Michael MacDougall in handcuffs and escorted him from the wooded area before Greenbelt officers arrived. While in police custody, MacDougall became unresponsive. Officers rendered aid, and Prince George's County Fire and EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An infant inside the vehicle was not injured. On 07/15/2026, the Maryland Office of the Attorney General identified the decedent as Michael MacDougall of Frederick, Maryland, and identified Greenbelt Police Officer Tyler Fahey, a four-year veteran assigned to the Patrol Division, as the involved officer. The Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division stated that Officer Fahey was wearing a body-worn camera and his patrol vehicle was equipped with a dashboard camera, both of which recorded the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
