On 07/02/2026, a man was shot and killed by Philadelphia police outside St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. According to Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, the man had been involved in an incident at the hospital the previous day and had been asked to leave. When he returned the following morning, hospital security refused him entry, but police stated he remained compliant and did not threaten hospital staff or patients. A relative then called 911 and reported that the man was suicidal, had access to firearms, and might have a license to carry. Officers responded to the bus stop outside the hospital. Police stated that as officers approached, the man began drawing a handgun, and one officer fired multiple shots. The man was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A woman standing next to him, identified by police as his girlfriend, was grazed by a bullet and survived. Police recovered a handgun at the scene and stated that the man did not fire his weapon.
