On 07/03/2026, California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of a fight and an injured man on the right shoulder of the westbound Interstate 210 Freeway near West Arrow Highway in Covina, California. Officers found a tow truck driver suffering from a gunshot wound after allegedly being shot by 32-year-old Kevin Perez, who had reportedly requested roadside assistance before the shooting. Officers located Perez's vehicle leaving the scene and initiated a pursuit. The pursuit ended near 110 West Arrow Highway, where, according to authorities, Perez exited his vehicle while armed with a handgun. Officers then shot Perez. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The California Department of Justice is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
