On 07/01/2026, a 19-year-old man died by suicide during a police encounter following a felony traffic stop at the Park on Wurzbach apartment complex in San Antonio, Texas. According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers attempted to stop the man on an outstanding felony family violence warrant in the 4700 block of Wurzbach Road near Ingram Park Mall. The man drove into the apartment complex parking lot, where he remained the sole occupant of the vehicle. During the stop, he shot himself before officers fired any shots. Officers removed him from the vehicle and attempted life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. While officers were extracting him from the vehicle, it rolled forward because it had not been placed in park, running over an officer's foot and causing a minor injury. Authorities stated the man had a prior arrest for evading arrest. No officers discharged their firearms. The San Antonio Police Department is investigating the incident.
