On 06/24/2026, a man died from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision that occurred during a police pursuit in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. According to investigators, officers initially attempted to stop a vehicle that was being driven recklessly. The pursuit was discontinued because of safety concerns. A short time later, officers encountered the vehicle again, and it fled before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Patterson Avenue and Germanton Road. The driver of the second vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized. After several days on life support, his family elected to discontinue life-sustaining treatment, and he died from his injuries. Authorities charged the fleeing driver with felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, felony hit-and-run involving serious injury or death, felony fleeing to elude arrest, and multiple traffic offenses. Additional charges may be filed following the victim's death.
