On 07/04/2026, Jacob Williamson, 49, was shot and killed by LaSalle County sheriff's deputies during an attempt to serve an active arrest warrant in Ottawa. Deputies initiated a traffic stop to take Williamson into custody, but he continued driving to his residence in the 2200 block of E. 13th Road. After arriving at the property, Williamson exited his vehicle with a firearm and exchanged gunfire with deputies. Deputies returned fire, fatally wounding him at approximately 12:45 p.m. Two deputies were involved in the shooting and were not injured.
