OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/07/2026, a 17-year-old boy died from injuries sustained in a crash that occurred following an Aurora Police pursuit on 06/28/2026. Officers attempted to stop a Volkswagen Jetta they believed had been stolen near East Mississippi Avenue and East Alameda Parkway at approximately 4:00 a.m. A pursuit lasting about one minute was authorized before being terminated because of excessive speed and the driver's behavior. Approximately 10 minutes later, the Jetta was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light at South Havana Street and East Alameda Avenue and struck a Subaru WRX. The Jetta caught fire after the collision. Officers extinguished the flames and the 17-year-old driver and his 23-year-old passenger were transported to hospitals with life-threatening injuries. The driver died on 07/07/2026. The passenger remained hospitalized. The Arapahoe County Coroner will release the driver's identity.
