On 07/04/2026, LaSalle County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a man damaging property with a tractor at a residence near North 35th Road and East 15th Road outside Earlville. Deputies attempted to arrest the 49-year-old man after locating him driving the tractor. According to the Illinois State Police, the man opened fire on deputies, who returned fire. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two deputies were involved in the shooting and neither was injured. The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
