OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/02/2026, Stevens County deputies shot and killed a man after responding to a 911 call reporting that a man had fired shots at two children riding a four-wheeler near Tum Tum. Deputies responded to a residence off Highway 291. After several hours, the man came out of the home armed with a handgun. A deputy first struck him with a less-lethal round, but the man then raised the handgun toward deputies. Four Stevens County deputies fired multiple shots, killing him. The deputies were placed on leave. The Washington State Patrol is investigating.
