OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 06/30/2026, Pitt County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on NC Highway 43 South near Chicod School. A woman, later identified as an off-duty Greenville police officer, was transported to a hospital with injuries. Deputies believed Anthony Michael Maimone, 41, remained barricaded inside the home and attempted for several hours to establish contact using crisis negotiators. The Sheriff's Office Special Response Team, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and EMS responded to the scene. After repeated unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Maimone, a tactical team entered the residence and found him dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The investigation remains ongoing.
