OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/06/2026, Hampton Police officers responded to reports of a man firing a handgun near Ocean Boulevard and D Street in Hampton. Officers located the man, who remained armed, and attempted to negotiate with him while ordering him to drop the weapon. During the confrontation, one officer fired a single shot. The man then sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers immediately rendered medical aid until EMS arrived. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The New Hampshire Attorney General's Office determined that the self-inflicted gunshot wound was the cause of death and is conducting the investigation into the officer's use of force.
