OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/07/2026, deputies with the Seneca County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Bloomville Police Department attempted to arrest Jeffrey Sergent, 43, on felony domestic violence charges after locating him driving a pickup truck. Officers stopped the truck near the intersection of Township Road 8 and State Route 67 and blocked it from leaving. During an approximately 10-minute standoff, officers repeatedly attempted to persuade Sergent to exit the vehicle. According to the Sheriff's Office, Sergent displayed several knives while remaining inside the truck. As additional deputies arrived, Sergent attempted to drive away. Deputies fired into the vehicle, striking Sergent. He was pronounced dead at the scene. One deputy sustained a hand injury from broken glass. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting, and the deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
