OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/08/2026, members of the Memphis Safe Task Force, including Drug Enforcement Administration agents, attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant on Alfonso Ivy, 47, at an Extended Stay hotel in the 6500 block of Poplar Avenue in Memphis. After entering the hotel to execute the warrant, agents encountered Ivy inside a room. According to investigators, Ivy pointed a handgun at the agents, who then fired, striking him. Agents rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Ivy was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation at the request of the Shelby County District Attorney General.
