On 07/10/2026, Harrison County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in the Hillcrest Trails subdivision off FM 2879 near the Harrison County–Longview border. Deputies encountered Jeshon Andrew Hamilton, 23, who ran into a wooded area, prompting a foot pursuit involving a sheriff's lieutenant and a K-9 unit. According to the Harrison County Sheriff's Office, Hamilton fired multiple shots during the pursuit, striking a patrol vehicle and later aiming a handgun at deputies. Deputies then fired, striking Hamilton. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured. The Texas Rangers are conducting the investigation into the shooting.
