OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/10/2026 at approximately 5:08 a.m., Harrison County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Hillcrest Trails subdivision after multiple residents reported a man walking through neighborhood yards. Deputies began searching the area around Alexis Drive and discovered evidence that an unoccupied residence had been burglarized. During the search, deputies also learned that a firearm had been stolen from a vehicle in the neighborhood during the previous night.
At approximately 6:34 a.m., deputies located the man, later identified as Jeshon Andrew Hamilton, 23, of Marshall, on Ella Kate Drive. Deputies observed Hamilton holding a handgun to his own head. When deputies attempted to communicate with him, Hamilton fled on foot into a wooded area, beginning a foot pursuit. A sheriff's lieutenant deployed a K-9 during the search.
According to Harrison County Sheriff B.J. Fletcher, Hamilton stopped during the pursuit, turned toward the pursuing deputies, and pointed the handgun at the sheriff's lieutenant and the K-9. Multiple deputies fired their weapons, striking Hamilton. Deputies rendered emergency medical aid until Harrison County EMS arrived. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined the handgun Hamilton pointed at deputies had been stolen from a vehicle in the subdivision the night before.
The Texas Rangers assumed the independent investigation into the shooting. Investigators processed the wooded scene, collected the firearm and other physical evidence, interviewed deputies and witnesses, and reviewed body-worn camera recordings. Upon completion, the investigation will be submitted to the Harrison County District Attorney's Office for review.
Later the same day, Sheriff Fletcher conducted a press conference and publicly identified the decedent as Jeshon Andrew Hamilton, 23, of Marshall. The sheriff's office also released body-worn camera footage and video from the press conference documenting the incident. As of the latest available information, the names of the deputies who fired have not been publicly released.
