OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/08/2026, Kendall County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of an armed man firing a handgun in the Bent Tree subdivision near Boerne. Deputies encountered Austin Hodo, 18, in the street carrying a handgun. According to the sheriff's office, deputies repeatedly ordered Hodo to drop the weapon. During the encounter, Hodo fired at deputies, who returned fire, striking him. Deputies provided medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Hodo was pronounced dead at the scene. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting.
