OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/08/2026 at approximately 4:55 a.m., the Boerne Police Department Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a man standing in the roadway in the Bent Tree subdivision wearing only his underwear and firing a handgun. One caller reported the man had fired a shot in the caller's direction. Four Kendall County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 100 block of Bent Tree Drive and located Austin Hodo, 18, still armed with a handgun.
Dash camera video released by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office shows deputies repeatedly ordering Hodo to drop the handgun. During the approximately 46-second encounter, deputies gave more than two dozen verbal commands while using patrol vehicles for cover. Hodo continued walking toward the deputies while holding the handgun in his left hand and a cloth in his right hand.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Hodo raised the handgun and fired toward the deputies. The deputies returned fire, striking Hodo. Deputies immediately approached, secured the handgun, and rendered emergency medical aid, including the application of tourniquets, until EMS personnel arrived. Hodo was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Kendall County Sheriff's Office later released dash camera video, 911 recordings, and dispatch radio traffic documenting the encounter. The department identified one of the involved officers as Corporal Cheyenne Weber, an 11-year veteran of the Boerne Police Department who was assigned to the operation. The identities of the remaining three deputies who fired or were present during the encounter have not been publicly released.
Austin Hodo had recently graduated from the Geneva School of Boerne and planned to attend Texas Tech University. Investigators have not publicly identified a motive for his actions. The Texas Rangers are conducting the criminal investigation, and the Kendall County Sheriff's Office is conducting a parallel administrative investigation into the shooting.
