On 07/08/2026, Oregon law enforcement officers located Hayes Miles McCloud, 24, in a vehicle on Sunset Boulevard near Greenway Drive in Seaside after receiving a statewide alert that he was wanted in connection with two fatal shootings earlier that day in Pierce County, Washington. Officers from the Seaside, Gearhart, and Cannon Beach police departments approached the vehicle. According to investigators, McCloud fired at the officers, who returned fire. McCloud then drove away before being found a short distance away deceased inside his vehicle from a gunshot wound. No officers were injured. The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation with assistance from the Clatsop County Major Crimes Team.
