On 07/11/2026, Austin police officers responded to reports of an armed man near the TownLake YMCA in the 1100 block of West Cesar Chavez Street. Officers located the man, who was armed with a handgun. During the encounter, officers shot the man. Officers rendered medical aid until Austin-Travis County EMS personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were reported injured. The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Texas.
