OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/10/2026 at approximately 4:47 p.m., a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper attempted to stop a gray Chevrolet Captiva near FM 495 and Tower Road in Hidalgo County. The driver, later identified as Crystal Ramirez, 32, continued driving away while the trooper pursued. Investigators later determined the Chevrolet had been reported stolen from Edinburg.
The pursuit continued eastbound until Ramirez lost control of the vehicle near Iowa Road east of Verbena Street. The Chevrolet left the roadway and crashed. Ramirez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Texas Department of Public Safety troopers secured the crash scene while investigators documented the collision, processed the stolen vehicle, collected physical evidence, and interviewed witnesses. The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
