OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/13/2026, 19-year-old Noel Almandarez allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle in Laverne, Oklahoma, and continued driving before emergency responders arrived. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital and was reported in stable condition. A Harper County sheriff's deputy later located Almandarez near U.S. Highway 412 and Western Avenue in Woodward County and attempted a traffic stop. Almandarez continued driving, leading deputies and officers from the Woodward County Sheriff's Office and Woodward Police Department on a pursuit. During the chase, authorities reported that Almandarez attempted to strike a Woodward police cruiser, and an exchange of gunfire occurred. Moments later, Almandarez crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a semi-truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident and will submit its findings to the Woodward County District Attorney's Office.
