On 07/16/2026, San Antonio Police Department officers attempted to stop Andrew Davila Jr. while he was riding a bicycle. Davila continued riding away while police pursued and requested additional officers. The encounter ended in the 800 block of Hammond Avenue, where police said Davila produced a handgun and pointed it toward officers. Four officers—Felix Rodriguez, Thomas Smith, Kenneth Hernandez, and Reed Butler—fired their weapons, striking Davila. Officers attempted lifesaving measures, but Davila was pronounced dead at the scene. Officer Thomas Smith has 20 years of service, Officer Reed Butler has nine years of service, and Officers Felix Rodriguez and Kenneth Hernandez each have approximately two years of service.
