OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/16/2026, members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 34-year-old Chris Muchowski at a residence in the 2400 block of 32nd Street Southeast in Ruskin. Police claim Muchowski opened fire on deputies as they approached the home, striking two deputies. Other deputies returned fire, striking and killing Muchowski at the scene. One deputy was critically injured after being shot in the neck and underwent emergency surgery, while a second deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was reported in stable condition. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting. Authorities have not released the identities of the deputies who fired their weapons or the number of rounds discharged.
