OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/15/2026 at approximately 11:45 a.m., Loveland Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence investigation in the 3300 block of Banyan Avenue. Investigators determined that 49-year-old Brant Peter Valvo had allegedly threatened another person with a firearm during the earlier incident. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Valvo with menacing, tampering, and prohibited use of a weapon before attempting to take him into custody.
When officers contacted Valvo at the residence to serve the warrant, he opened fire on them. Officers returned fire, striking Valvo. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Larimer County Coroner later identified the decedent as Brant Peter Valvo of Loveland. An autopsy determined the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds and the manner of death was homicide.
The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) was activated, and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office assumed responsibility for the criminal investigation. Detectives processed the residence, documented the exchange of gunfire, interviewed witnesses, and collected firearms and other physical evidence.
The Larimer County Coroner publicly identified Valvo on 07/20/2026 following notification of his family. As of the latest available public information, the names of the officers involved in the shooting had not been released. The completed CIRT investigation will be forwarded to the Eighth Judicial District Attorney's Office for review of the officers' use of deadly force.
