OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/18/2026, Russellville Police Department officers responded to a residence on Washington Avenue after receiving reports that a DoorDash delivery driver had been stabbed. Investigators said 28-year-old Erik Martinez, who had placed the food order, allegedly attacked the delivery driver after the driver arrived at the residence. The driver suffered multiple stab wounds and fled to seek help.
Responding officers encountered Martinez outside the residence. During the confrontation, Martinez allegedly attacked one of the officers with a knife, inflicting injuries. Another officer opened fire, striking Martinez. Officers rendered emergency medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Martinez died from his injuries at the scene.
The injured DoorDash driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and was later reported to be in stable condition. The injured police officer was also hospitalized and later released.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's State Bureau of Investigation assumed responsibility for investigating the shooting. Authorities also arrested a second individual, 27-year-old Jessica Ann Duran, who was charged with attempted murder and other offenses in connection with the incident.
