On 07/17/2026 at approximately 6:28 a.m., Corona Police Department officers responded to the 1200 block of East Parkridge Avenue after multiple 911 callers reported that a man was assaulting a woman with a rock. Callers reported the man repeatedly struck the woman with the rock and was also armed with a knife.
The first responding officer quickly located the suspect, later identified as Isaiah Maciel, 25, of Corona. According to the Corona Police Department, Maciel remained armed with the knife and did not comply with the officer's commands. During the encounter, the officer fired, striking Maciel. Officers rendered emergency medical aid, but Maciel was pronounced dead at the scene by Corona Fire Department personnel.
The female victim sustained multiple visible injuries from the assault and was treated by emergency medical personnel. Investigators stated they found no known relationship between Maciel and the victim, indicating the assault appeared to involve strangers.
