On 07/17/2026, Chandler Police Department detectives attempted to arrest a man in Tempe who was wanted in connection with an aggravated assault investigation from approximately two weeks earlier. During the attempted arrest at an apartment complex near Scottsdale Road and McKellips Road, the man continued running into the complex while police pursued him. Police said he displayed a firearm during the foot pursuit, and an officer shot him. It was later determined that he also shot himself. Officers provided medical aid until firefighters arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mesa Police Department is conducting the investigation into the shooting.
