On 07/24/2026 at approximately 7:30 a.m., deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at an apartment located at 785 81st Street in Miami Beach. Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz stated the warrant was part of a firearms investigation.
During the operation, deputies encountered 17-year-old Durrell Young. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, Young displayed a firearm during the encounter. At least one deputy fired, striking Young. Deputies rendered medical aid until Miami Beach Fire Rescue personnel arrived. Young was pronounced dead at the scene.
