On 07/03/2026, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers located Jason Michael Trevino on Interstate 40 after authorities in Ohio reported that he had allegedly abducted his young daughter following a domestic violence incident in Columbus. Troopers pursued Trevino westbound on I-40 until spike strips disabled his vehicle near Exit 87 in Madison County. An hours-long standoff followed, during which Trevino released the child unharmed. After exiting the vehicle, officers attempted to take him into custody using less-lethal tactics, but those efforts were unsuccessful. Police stated that Trevino displayed a handgun, and officers opened fire, striking and killing him. The child was safely recovered, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation into the shooting. Court records later showed Trevino had been under a domestic violence protection order that prohibited him from possessing firearms at the time of the incident.
