On 07/11/2026, Jermaine Joseph Glodd II, 25, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was killed when the vehicle in which he was riding crashed during a police pursuit that began in Sulphur, Louisiana, and ended in Orange, Texas.
According to investigators, Sulphur Police Department officers attempted to stop a black Mercedes for speeding on Interstate 10 at approximately 9:40 p.m. The driver continued westbound into Texas while police pursued. Investigators reported the vehicle reached speeds of up to 130 mph before exiting Interstate 10 at Exit 877 in Orange. As the driver attempted to negotiate the Adams Bayou turnaround, the Mercedes suffered a tire blowout, crashed through a guardrail, rolled down an embankment, and became submerged in Adams Bayou. Officers attempted to rescue the occupants but were unable to reach them before the vehicle sank. Dive teams later recovered the vehicle, and both occupants were found dead inside.
Orange Police later identified the passenger as Jermaine Joseph Glodd II, born August 24, 2000, of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Funeral notices describe him as a lifelong Lake Charles resident. Authorities have not publicly identified the officers involved in the pursuit, and the circumstances surrounding the chase remain under investigation.
