OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/24/2026, an Albuquerque Police Department officer was responding to a tactical activation to assist detectives attempting to arrest a suspect in an unrelated criminal investigation in Albuquerque. While traveling on New Mexico State Road 47 near Isleta Lakes Road on Isleta Pueblo, the officer's patrol vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Albuquerque police officer was not injured. Authorities have not publicly identified the deceased driver.
APD Communications Director Gilbert Gallegos stated the officer was responding to assist the Investigative Support Unit and that the incident had not yet become a full SWAT callout, although the responding officer was assigned to the Tactical Unit.
New Mexico State Police assumed responsibility for investigating the fatal collision.
