On 07/26/2026, Chicago police responded to a report that someone traveling in a pickup truck had pointed a firearm at another person. Officers located a truck matching the caller’s description and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued driving away. Chicago police quickly terminated that pursuit. Illinois State Police later located the same truck in the 5500 block of South Cicero Avenue. The driver initially stopped but then continued driving away, and state police requested assistance from Chicago police. At approximately 2:16 a.m., the truck left the roadway at high speed in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue, fell from the bridge above the railroad yard, and struck a stationary railroad boxcar. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men and two women were ultimately killed in the crash. Authorities had not released their identities or ages at the time of reporting.
