OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/23/2026, Boise Police officers responded to a report of a suicidal man near a canal along Overland Road near Cloverdale Road. A Behavioral Health Response Team officer and a civilian crisis responder attempted to de-escalate the encounter. According to police, Matthew Blair produced a knife and advanced toward officers. Officers deployed a 40 mm less-lethal impact munition, which police said was unsuccessful. As Blair continued advancing, two officers fired their duty weapons, striking him. Officers rendered medical aid until additional first responders arrived, but Blair was pronounced dead at the scene. On 07/24/2026, the Ada County Coroner identified the deceased as 32-year-old Matthew Blair. The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force is investigating the shooting, and the involved officers have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.
