On 07/04/2026, a Lakewood Police officer observed a vehicle speeding westbound on South 74th Street at approximately 1:20 a.m. The officer activated emergency lights and siren and attempted to catch up to the vehicle. Before the officer reached it, the vehicle crossed lanes, struck a power pole and railroad crossing equipment near South Tacoma Way, and caught fire. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Fireworks inside the vehicle ignited after the crash, complicating the initial response. Tacoma Police are investigating because the collision occurred within Tacoma city limits. The driver and a passenger were both killed in this police chase crash.
