OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/27/2026, Ventura County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a residence in the 9400 block of Thompson Avenue near Chatsworth. The victim was able to leave the residence safely before the suspect barricaded himself inside the home. During the standoff, the man fired multiple shots from inside the residence, prompting a large law enforcement response that included SWAT officers, armored vehicles, drones, and crisis negotiators. Deputies established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate his surrender for several hours. During the operation, deputies heard a single gunshot from inside the residence. After tactical teams entered the home, the man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. No deputies fired their weapons. The incident remains under investigation.
