OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/29/2026 at approximately 7:50 a.m., an Abington Police Department officer attempted to stop a stolen Hyundai Santa Fe after locating it in Abington. The driver continued driving away while police pursued. Moments later, the SUV left the roadway and struck a tree near 877 Washington Street.
The female passenger was ejected from the SUV during the collision and sustained life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition for two days. On 07/31/2026, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office announced that she had died from her injuries, becoming the second fatality resulting from the crash. As of the latest public information, her identity has not been released.
Three additional teenage passengers survived with serious injuries. The driver, Sebastian Hamilton, died at the scene after becoming trapped inside the vehicle. The officer involved in the pursuit has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation continues.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office, Abington Police Department, and Massachusetts State Police continue to investigate the pursuit. Boston 25 also reported that the department's vehicle pursuit policy has come under public scrutiny following the crash.
