On 07/31/2026, at approximately 6:15 p.m., Willoughby Police Department officers responded to a disturbance involving two armed men near Euclid Avenue and River Street. Police reported Thomas Nock of Elyria exchanged gunfire with a Willoughby police officer during the encounter. The officer returned fire, striking Nock. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Nock was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was taken into custody.
