OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/19/2026, North Las Vegas Police Department officers responded to reports of a man firing an AR-15 rifle in the 6000 block of Yellowhammer Place. Police reported Daniel Garrett Lujan, Jr. resisted being taken into custody and struggled with officers, during which police used a baton, a taser, less-lethal projectile rounds, and physical force after reporting that Lujan grabbed an officer's firearm. After he was restrained and handcuffed, Lujan became unresponsive. Officers and medical personnel performed lifesaving measures before he was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner identified Lujan and determined the cause and manner of death remain pending. The Critical Incident Review Team is investigating, and the North Las Vegas Police Department later released body camera footage of the encounter.
