OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/16/2026, Commerce Police Department officers responded to a report of a burglary in progress. Police located Levi Taylor Long Sr. at a nearby residence in the 200 block of Orchard Drive. Police reported Long exited the residence armed with a screwdriver and advanced toward officers. An officer fired, striking Long. He was transported to a hospital, where he remained hospitalized for six days before dying from his injuries on 07/22/2026. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, and the GBI Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy.
