On 08/01/2026, at approximately 7:33 p.m., a Freestone County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver continued driving away while police pursued. According to Sheriff Jeremy Shipley, the pursuit lasted approximately 26 minutes and reached speeds exceeding 125 mph on rural highways in Freestone County.
The pursuit ended on Farm-to-Market Road 488, approximately three miles north of Fairfield, after Green pulled his vehicle onto the shoulder of the roadway. Deputies reported that a physical confrontation occurred after the man exited the vehicle. During that encounter, a deputy fired his weapon, striking him.
