On 08/02/2026, Raton Police Department officers responded to a domestic violence call involving an armed man on South 2nd Street. Police reported Paul Andrew Terry was armed with a handgun and refused commands during the encounter. An officer fired, striking Terry. Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, but Terry was pronounced dead at the scene. The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau is conducting the investigation.
