On 08/01/2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Chad Williams opened fire with an AR-style rifle in and around the In-N-Out Burger shopping area on Washington Street North, killing three people and wounding seven others. Witnesses and investigators reported that an armed citizen and an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper returned fire, forcing Williams to move and likely preventing additional casualties. Police searched the commercial area, evacuated nearby businesses, and established a large perimeter. Officers later found Williams dead near the restaurant from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks confirmed Williams acted alone. The FBI, ATF, and Twin Falls Police Department continue to investigate the motive and the circumstances surrounding the attack.
