Killed by police during domestic violence callOn 08/03/2026, Mesa Police Department officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident at a residence on Emery Circle near Meridian Road and Elliott Road. According to investigators, 59-year-old Perry Forster confronted his ex-wife and children outside the home while armed with a shovel and later an axe. Neighbors intervened to protect the woman and children until officers arrived. Police attempted to de-escalate the situation, but an encounter followed during which officers shot Forster. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and children were not physically injured. Mesa Police Department is conducting the criminal investigation, while the Mesa Police Professional Standards Bureau will conduct the administrative review.
