OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 07/23/2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a white Hyundai IONIQ 5 on Interstate 25 near Exit 7 in Cheyenne after observing that the vehicle was being driven without functioning taillights. Instead of stopping, the driver accelerated away and exited onto West College Drive before continuing south on Clear Creek Parkway.

According to investigators, the vehicle exceeded 100 mph in a posted 45-mph zone while the Wyoming Highway Patrol pursued. As the vehicle approached a sharp curve near 6215 Clear Creek Parkway, the driver failed to negotiate the turn. The Hyundai left the roadway, became airborne, crashed through a business parking lot, and came to rest after a violent impact.

Twenty-two-year-old Christian Dawsey of Colorado was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators reported that he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver, 26-year-old James K. Moore of Colorado, and a second passenger survived with serious injuries and were transported to hospitals. Troopers reported finding numerous alcoholic beverage containers inside and around the wreckage, detected the odor of alcohol, and obtained a blood sample from Moore pursuant to Wyoming's implied consent law.
