OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/08/2026, at approximately 9:33 a.m., Bowie County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to County Road 3103 near U.S. Highway 82 after receiving a report that Kenneth Eugene Jordan, 48, had stabbed one woman and assaulted another at a residence. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing victim fled to a neighboring residence and Jordan followed her. The homeowner armed himself and held Jordan at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. The severely injured woman was subsequently flown by helicopter for treatment and was expected to survive.
.
Bowie County deputies responded along with officers from the Hooks Police Department and New Boston Police Department and personnel from the Texas Department of Public Safety. Police alleged that Jordan remained armed with a knife. Deputies used Tasers against Jordan twice without incapacitating him and also used an OC pepper-ball launcher. Local reporting based on police radio traffic indicated that officers gave Jordan commands to drop the knives for approximately 20 minutes.
.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Jordan then turned toward a New Boston Police Department K9 and its handler. A Hooks Police Department officer fired, striking Jordan. Police and emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Jordan died at the scene. The reported shooting occurred at approximately 10:10 a.m.
.
Justice of the Peace Catie Hawkins ordered an autopsy, and Jordan's body was transported to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The Texas Rangers are investigating the fatal police shooting, while the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the assaults that preceded the police response.
.
The identification appears to correspond to Kenneth Eugene Jordan II, born 08/08/1978, whose North Carolina appellate record documents convictions arising from a 1998 case for three counts of second-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. The date of birth matches Jordan being exactly 48 on the date of his death, and registry-derived records subsequently place a Kenneth Eugene Jordan II with that birth date in the Texarkana, Texas area.
