On 08/08/2026, 60-year-old Javier Ordonez was shot and killed by Downey Police Department officers at a six-unit residential complex in the 11800 block of Downey Avenue near De Palma Street in Downey, California. Officers had been dispatched at approximately 7:50 a.m. following reports of gunfire at the property.

When officers arrived, they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound and subsequently located an adult woman who had also been shot. Both were pronounced dead. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators subsequently said the three people who died were members of the same family and described the underlying incident as an apparent domestic-violence case.

Police identified Ordonez as the armed man they were attempting to locate following the discovery of the two shooting victims. Officers surrounded the six-unit complex while attempting to get Ordonez to come outside. Video recorded at the scene captured police using a loudspeaker to call "Javier" by name and ordering him in Spanish to come outside with his hands raised.
