On 08/10/2026, off-duty Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Troy Savetz kidnapped and killed his former girlfriend, 39-year-old Mandy Fackler, after confronting her outside her Hudson home as she returned from the beach with her children, ages 9 and 12. Authorities described their on-and-off relationship as tumultuous and said the confrontation began over a television Savetz wanted returned.

Fackler told her children to get inside and call 911, which was captured on the 911 recording; when she attempted to call for help herself, Savetz took her phone, and one of her children called 911 and reported what was happening.

Savetz forced Fackler into a rental vehicle and drove away before deputies arrived at approximately 5:30 p.m. Authorities knew Savetz was an armed law-enforcement officer and tracked the rental vehicle to Platinum Drive in Spring Hill, where at approximately 7 p.m. they found Fackler and Savetz dead inside; investigators determined Savetz had shot and killed Fackler before fatally shooting himself.
