On 08/11/2026, at approximately 11 p.m., Lincoln Police Department officers contacted 23-year-old Lincoln man Alex Chavez at the Hampton Inn near Old Cheney Road and Nebraska Parkway while attempting to arrest him on outstanding warrants.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office reported that the outstanding warrants were for assault causing bodily injury and disturbing the peace. He fled from Lincoln police officers during the attempted arrest.

Authorities reported that after fleeing from police, the man sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died.
