On 08/15/2026, an unidentified person was shot and killed by a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper during a mental health crisis in Brownsboro, Texas. The trooper had been called to assist local law enforcement with a report of a suicidal person.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the DPS trooper responded to the 11000 block of Ingram Street. According to DPS, the trooper encountered the person holding a firearm and gave commands for the person to drop the weapon.

DPS alleged that the person did not comply with the trooper's commands and raised the firearm toward the trooper. The trooper then fired, striking the person. The currently available reporting does not disclose how many shots the trooper fired, how long the encounter lasted, whether other officers were present when the shooting occurred, or what attempts at de-escalation preceded the gunfire.

First responders provided medical aid before the person was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the fatal shooting. The identity of the person killed and the identity of the trooper who fired have not been publicly released.
