NARRATIVE:
On 08/17/2026, a 31-year-old man was shot and killed by an Idaho State Police trooper during a traffic stop in the 700 block of West 400 South near Heyburn in Minidoka County, Idaho.

At approximately 4:53 p.m., an Idaho State Police trooper initiated a traffic stop involving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. Authorities have not disclosed the reason for the stop.

During the traffic stop, the trooper requested additional law-enforcement personnel. Authorities have not explained what occurred between the driver and trooper before the request for backup or why additional personnel were requested.

Shortly afterward, the trooper radioed that gunfire had occurred. The 31-year-old driver was struck by police gunfire.

The trooper and responding emergency personnel attempted medical aid, but the man died from his injuries.
